WHAT IS VEGANISM?

what it is not

It’s not a diet.

what it is

It is a moral baseline and one of the most important social justice issues in these modern times. Animal agribusiness has a detrimental affect on animals, people, and the planet.

It is the rejection of speciesism. Causing the suffering and killing of sentient beings who want to live for a moment of unnecessary taste pleasure is morally wrong. This is the reason that there is no such thing as an ex “vegan”.

Someone who believes that killing others is morally wrong doesn’t just wake up one morning and decide that they are going to start killing others because they will enjoy it. Anyone claiming to be ex “vegan” was never vegan to begin with. They were plant-based.

“Veganism must be the baseline if we are to have any hope of shifting the paradigm away from animals as things and toward animals as nonhuman persons.” -Gary Francione

How to stay vegan in 3 simple steps

definition

Here’s the definition according The Vegan Society

“Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.

There are many ways to embrace vegan living. Yet one thing all vegans have in common is a plant-based diet avoiding all animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish and insects), dairy, eggs and honey – as well as avoiding animal-derived materials, products tested on animals and places that use animals for entertainment.”

in other words

In other words, first and foremost, it’s about the animals. About their right to life and living a life free from harm/exploitation.

A plant-based diet which excludes all animal products is a result of veganism. The unfortunate part of a unhealthy plant-based diet is that people who dive into veganism without knowing what they are doing and only try the extreme PB fad diets or vegan junk foods, can experience a decline in their health. If and when they quit, they unjustly claim that veganism destroyed their health.

This is why Stay Vegan focuses on a healthy whole foods plant-based diet and does not promote the radical fad diets and/or junk foods… we want people to thrive as vegans so they will stay vegan.

Be kind to every kind meme.

other aspects

Other aspects of veganism are the environment and human rights. By not contributing to the exploitation of animals, by default, you will also not be contributing to the human rights abuses and environmental destruction that goes along with animal exploitation. If you haven’t made the choice yet, please consider going, being, and staying vegan. It’s the right thing to do.
